Summer volleyball tournaments 2014

As the season's are coming to an end and attentions change to focus on the summer volleyball tournaments, we've listed a few of the most popular ones below.  A full list is available (including the beach tournaments) on the Volleyball England website.  If you are running a tournament and it's not listed here, but you think it would be of interest to the Riga players, send us details via the Contact Us page and we'll add it!

On Friday the West Midlands ladies squad travelled to Alcester for a game re-arranged from March.  The ladies started slowly allowing Alcester to take an early lead as Riga struggled to get its passing unit into the flow.  Good work at the net from Melissa and Jane K through the middle kept Riga in the game as the teams traded points.  Ginny distributed the ball well and found Jayne and Jules through four but Alcester took the set.

This year they are organising an all Star Super 8s Game.  It brings together the best of the best for an end of season showdown.   3 RIGA Players have been nominated and they NEED YOUR VOTE!

Super 8s mens team players: Matt Howe (outside)  Tom Young (libero) and Torsten Haensal (middle) are respresented across the categories. To vote for them is easy - just go to http://www.sideout.co.uk/#!all-stars-vote-men/cldx and vote now!

Ladies defeated by Sheffield

On Saturday 8 March Riga ladies hosted Sheffield at Alan Higgs.  Having had a close game v Sheffield earlier in the season and both teams being near the top of the league, it was all to play for.

Riga ladies travelled to Loughborough this weekend to face Loughborough in the National Shield Semi-final.  It was a re-run of last year's semi-final where Riga also faced Loughborough.  Having lost to Loughborough in the league the week before, Riga were keen to get off to a strong start.

*****STOP PRESS*****  These sessions will now restart on Thursday 6th March rather than 27th Feb as previously advertised.

Womens 'back to volleyball' sessions restart on Thursday 27th February at Bablake School in Coventry.  Whether you have played volleyball on holiday or at school the sessions are ideal for those looking to get back into the game.

See the attached flyer for further details and how to book.  Any queries use the Contact Us form above.

Did you know that the Club runs weekly volleyball sessions for all players every Thursday evening at Bablake School in Coventry.  These sessions are open to all (with you are new to the Club and what to play volleyball socially or play with one of the teams and want a bit of extra time playing the game you love!).

For those of you new to the game or looking to get "back to vollleyball" after a playing absence then we run regular blocks of "back to volleyball" sessions.  These offer structured coaching to help you improve the basics of your game.  The next block of sessions starts after the February half term - first session with be Thursday 27th February.

Watch this space for further details or if you are interested - send us an email via the Contact Us link above and we'll email you details of the sessions once they are finalised.   Volleyball is a great game so do come on down and give it a try!

This weekend saw Riga host Oxford ladies in the Volleyball England National Shield competition.  Riga started strong, good passing from libero Netti allowed Clare to distribute the ball with Brit hitting some strong winners through four and Kat through the middle.  The team palyed with momentum and took and early lead.

After playing xford in a five set match, a tired squad then faced Nottingham Rockets who had shown in their game v Oxford that they were a clever team.  With Ana as libero the passing unit worked well allowing Clare to use options.  Sophie hit well through two and Britt and Mille won a string of points at four.  Clare had a run of seven serves and Riga were 17-7 ahead. Good blocks from Mim saw Riga close the set 25-12.
