This weekend Riga headed to Bristol for the annual Whitefield tournament.  At a new location this year we all braved the holiday traffic and after several hours made it to Bristol and settled down to a nice evening meal and a few drinks to get the weekend started.

Saturday saw the mens team start well in division 1 with a win.  The ladies were in division 2 and equally got off to a good start with a solid victory.  The sun was shining and both teams were doing well playing and supporting each other - or heckling from the side lines!  By the end of Saturday's play both teams remained unbeaten!  Time for a few drinks and we headed into Bristol to have a look around the waterfront before heading to Giuseppes (or Giovannis?!) restaurant for some food.  Michele had booked the venue and the food was fantastic.  It was also opposite Vodka Revolution which provided the post meal entertainment, the traditional Whitefield Sambucas and a bit of dancing!

So into Sunday we went - a few aches and pains in the joints and in a few heads!  Play started well with the men on at the early start of 9.30 and winning another game.  The ladies followed suit and made it into the semi-final.  It was at this point it dawned on the ladies that they were defending champions and the pressure started to build!  Still, no time for that as the men were about to play their final pool game v Solent.  With both teams unbeaten so far in the weekend the winner of this would win Division 1 Whitefield 2015.  It was neck and neck and Riga took the first set.  However, a solid performance from Solent saw them stick with it and edge the second set.  Into the third and a decider and it was Solent that took the edge, and the title.  A worthy final game and the men had to settle for silver this year!

The women played well and saw off strong opposition (Oxford Eagles) in the semi-final to reach the final.  In the final they played That's what she set.  The game really was neck and neck.  In the first set some strong serving from Clare and Anca coupled with good hitting from Hannah and Jules (M) saw Riga take the set.  However, that's what she set showed how they had made it into the final and fought back hard in the second set despite Riga taking a 6-1 lead.  Jules provided a solid pass and Netti and Michele attacked well but a strong run of serves from That's what she set's strongest server saw Riga falter at the final hurdle as the set slipped away.  So into  third and deciding set.  Strong serving saw the girls again take an early lead and Riga were ahead at the change of ends.  That's what she set made a come back before Clare came round to serve and two well placed (wind assisted) serves saw Riga take the set and win the division.

A great weekend was had by all at the new venue.  Well played Riga!
