Introducing the new Division 3 ladies team Featured

Written by

This year has seen Riga enter a new Division 3C ladies team in the National a league. The ladies have had several years of success in NVL Division 2N with a separate ladies team in West Midlands league. So we decided to push on and enter NVLDiv 3. First game was away in Norwich and the girls won 3-1 against Ashfied Vipers before going down 3-0 v Norwick Spikers (or Spiders if you are Jules!). The last set was 29-27 showing how the Riga ladies improved as the game went on. So much to play for as the season continues! #goriga

Over the Bank Holiday weekend Riga West Mids ladies travelled to Hereford for their last league game of this season. Having only lost one league game all season (right at the start to Hereford) there was all to play for with the winner likely to be league champions 2018!

West Mids women win season opener

Written by

This year’s season for the West Midlands Riga team began with a match against Hereford, last year’s winners of the 2nd division. The first set started with a few difficulties on both sides and ball possession being lost equally, not surprising as half of the Riga players were making their team debut. Half way through the set, Riga was noticeably winning back confidence and 2 great series of serves by Clare and Alysia put pressure on Hereford. With Riga building up their game and landing some good attacks, the set was won 25-21.

The West Midlands ladies team played Uni of Birmingham last Thursday in the Plate semi-final.  It was end to end stuff in an epic 5 setter with Riga finally coming out on top to win 3-2 (19-17) in the fifth and see Riga claim their spot in the final.

The final will be held on Saturday 4 June at 2.30pm at Dudley Evolve against Birmingham Mets.  The girls would love loads of Club supporters to go along and cheer them on.   #goriga

CUP FINALS for WM women

Written by

The WM women need YOUR support.  They play in the West Midlands Cup final on Saturday the 6 June.  The game is 9.30 am in Walsall and all spectators from Club members, friends and family would be most welcome to help the women in their quest to win the title.

Riga's West Midlands women's side ended the league season with a win and a loss last week securing them 3rd place in the league.  On Wed 29th the team made the long trek to Cleobury (almost in Wales!!).  Inevitably the travelling took its toll and despite some good hitting from Hannah and some strong serving from Anca the girls lost the 1st set 19-25.

WM women through to Semi-finals of Cup

Written by

Riga WM ladies travelled to Tamworth this weekend for the quarter finals of the West Midlands cup.  Having played Tamworth recently in the league Riga know it would be a touch match but were determined to match them with team spirit.  The first set saw the teams trade point for point.  Tamworth got into a rhythm and had a strong run of serves which soon saw Riga trailing.  Ginny distributed the ball well with good hitting from Jayne and Melissa Riga fought back but it was too late and the first set slipped away.
