Riga ladies hosted Wombourne this weekend in the next round of the Volleyball England National Cup.  Riga ladies got off to a non-steady start with a run of service errors in a row - fortunately mirrored by Wombourne!  Eventually the ladies began to find their form.  Pass from stand-in libero Jackie saw Sophie able to distribute the ball well with attacks from Bella and Marcela.  Strong serving from Mim put Riga nicely ahead.  A double substitution saw Clare and Alex join the fray at 23-14.  Clare served two aces and then set to Alex to enable her to clinch the winning point - what a double substitution!

Into set two and again the ladies found themselves faultering and making their own errors.  Wobourne took advantage and pushed on putting points on the board while Riga sided out.  Riga gave themselves a talking too though and good hitting from Bella and Alex saw the girls re-take control of the set.  The ladies then powered on with good attacking from Sophie Lomax which saw Riga take the set 25 - 19.

The third set started better for Riga with Clare notching up another couple of aces.  Jackie continued to pass well allowing Clare to utilise Mim through the middle with the attack.  A shock turn of events then as Clare received a yellow card from the referee confusing all Riga and Wombourne players - but onwards and upwards the girls pressed ahead with great attacking from Sophie and Alex and good pipe attacks from Bella.  The girls took the set 25 - 15.

The win sees the girls win a trip to Durham in the next round of the Cup to play Super 8s team Team Durham!  Good luck ladies.
