The West Midlands ladies team played Uni of Birmingham last Thursday in the Plate semi-final.  It was end to end stuff in an epic 5 setter with Riga finally coming out on top to win 3-2 (19-17) in the fifth and see Riga claim their spot in the final.

The final will be held on Saturday 4 June at 2.30pm at Dudley Evolve against Birmingham Mets.  The girls would love loads of Club supporters to go along and cheer them on.   #goriga

Summer tournaments 2016

As the season's coming to an end attentions change to focus on the summer volleyball tournaments!  We've listed a few of the most popular ones below.  A full list is available (including the beach tournaments) on the Volleyball England website.  If you are running a tournament and it's not listed here, but you think it would be of interest to the Riga players, send us details via the Contact Us page and we'll add it!

On the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death the ladies host Newcastle Staffs in the final game of this season.  In fair Alan Higgs, where we lay our scene, the two teams met and in the warm up were both alike in dignity.  Powered on by a Purple play list in honour of Prince.

This weekend the ladies travelled to local team Birmingham in their penultimate game of the season.  A win for Birmingham would see them promoted to Division 1 for next season so it was sure to be a tough game for the ladies.   However, earlier in the season Riga had been one of the only teams to beat Birmingham so it was all to play for!

North Riding Eagles come out on top

Ladies played North Riding Eagles this weekend. The two sides have not met since the start of the season. Riga started strongly with a side out and a run of serves from Clare that put Riga 4-0 ahead and forced NRE into a time out

Ladies and men face Manchester

This weekend saw both teams host Manchester Marvels at home. First up it was the ladies. With Manchester currently holding 2nd place in the league it was sure to be a battle. The girls were also missing coach Jon and players Bella, Sylwia and Alex.

It is with great sadness that this weekend we say goodbye to Raimonds Liepa who sadly passed away on Saturday.  Raimonds was our good friend, long time member, player, referee and supporter of Riga Volleyball Club over the yaer and will be truly missed by us all.  Some photos below of Ray's many years with Riga to remember all the good times with him by.
