Riga awarded Clubmark accreditation Featured

Written by

Coventry & Warwick Riga is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Clubmark accreditation.  Clubmark is Sport England's national accreditation scheme for high quality community sports clubs and stands for higher standards of welfare, equity, coaching and management. It shows that we, as a Club, provide the right environment which ensures the welfare of members and encourages everyone to enjoy sport and stay involved throughout their lives.

Accreditation involved the Club going through a rigorous assessment process where we were tested against 24 separate criteria.  The committee submitted various documents and information about the Club to the Sport England assessors for them to review and approve.  We then hosted one of the assessors at a West Midlands training session at Bablake so that they could see first hand Nick's coaching in action and meet some of the members to get a proper feel for the Club.

The feedback was excellent and we were particularly highlighted for having "a pathway of training sessions", being a "Club that is willing to support the internal development of volunteers" and a "Club has a welcoming feel"   Nick's session was described as "differentiated based on ability level of players and all participants were enjoying the session and active throughout".  A massive thank you to the West Midlands ladies for letting the assessor visit their session to help us get the accreditation.

Sarah

Written by

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to longstanding Club member Sarah Halling who sadly passed away last week.  Sarah was our good friend.  Her love for volleyball started when she played at the University of Warwick as a student.  Sarah has been a long time member of the Club.  On the court she very much welcomed the position of libero coming along as Sarah was an ex-England football goalkeeper in her youth and used those skills to dive around the back court as libero keeping the ball up and keeping Riga in many a match over the years.  Off the court, Sarah was a dedicated Club member.  She was Vice Chair of the Club a few years ago and has still been a regular helping with the line judging at fixtures and supporting the teams.

New Coaching Role at University of Warwick

Written by

Our friends at the University of Warwick are currently looking for a new Coach for their volleyball teams.  It's a great role for coaches looking to get a bit more experience with some committed teams - and we thought it might be of interest to some of our members!  As you know, we work closely with the University and they host some of our training sessions outside of training times.  A number of our members are also studying at the Uni and playing in the Uni teams as well as for Riga.  All the details are available here - https://www.volleyballengland.org/about_us/about_us_/job_vacancies.  If you might be interested do get in touch!

Mens NVL Division 2 Team Seek New Coach

Written by

Riga Mens Team are actively seeking a coach for the 2017/8 season.  Interested...read on!

We will be playing in National League Division 2 for the 2017/8 season and have a strong core of players who are committed to improving both as individuals and as a team.  Thanks to a very strong finish to the last season we finished 8th in the league and are looking to improve on that for the coming season.  We were without a coach from the start of the last season and, while many of the more experienced players helped running sessions and taking charge at matches, it was a difficult season without one voice to bring us together.  We reached out to the coach of our ladies team to help out with some games at the end of the season and saw a marked improvement in our match results!  We're a team that's ready and willing to be coached - a coaches dream for sure..!  Click Read More!
