Both the ladies and the mens Division 3 teams have recently got their first double wins.  The ladies game first with a 3-1 win v Northampton and then a 3-1 win v Nottingham Rockets.  It was quickly followed up by the men who got a 3-1 win v Stowmarket and a 3-2 win (17-15 in the last!) against Newcastle Staffs.  The double wins have helped both teams consolidate their positions in the league tables.  It's no mean feat for the ladies as it is their first season in National League and the girls have shown they can get the wins and have great fun.

The men have one double header left this season and the girls two double headers (four games) so still lots to play for.  The womens division 2 team are also in a good position mid-table with two games remaining this season.  #goriga

This year has seen Riga enter a new Division 3C ladies team in the National a league. The ladies have had several years of success in NVL Division 2N with a separate ladies team in West Midlands league. So we decided to push on and enter NVLDiv 3. First game was away in Norwich and the girls won 3-1 against Ashfied Vipers before going down 3-0 v Norwick Spikers (or Spiders if you are Jules!). The last set was 29-27 showing how the Riga ladies improved as the game went on. So much to play for as the season continues! #goriga

Summer's almost over...and we're in full swing preparing for the 2018/9 indoor season. This year's an exciting year for Riga with three teams in the National League.  Men are in NVL Division 3 (Central) and we have two womens teams - one in NVL Division 2 (North) and one in NVL Division 3 (Central).  Pre-season training has now commenced.  Ladies training is Tuesdays at Centre AT7 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.  Mens training is on Thursdays at Bablake School from 8 - 10pm.  If you are interested in joining either team do get in touch via the 'Contact Us' function on this website.

This year's AGM was held at the Varsity, University of Warwick on Thursday 12 July.  A round up of all the action is set out below!  As we go into the 2018/9 season the committee is, as always, happy to hear any feedback you may have so that we can continue to help all members achieve their volleyball potential!  You can contact the committee via the Contact Us form on this website.

This weekend saw the annual Riga tournament take place in the sunshine at the University of Warwick.  The colour of the grass showed the heat of the weather this year - but that didn't stop the teams coming out in force!  John Boughton (tournament organiser) got the proceedings under way with a captains meeting and a brief recap of the rules of the tournament and then it was all action, smiles and volleyball for the rest of the day.

The final standings were:-

1st place - Pierogi

2nd place - Draugi

3rd place - Alex's crew

4th place - Class on grass

5th place - Vertically challenged

6th place - Riga 1996

Thanks to all the teams for coming along to take part and thanks to John for all the organising.  See you again next year!
