This weekend saw celebrations a plenty as the Riga annual AGM and a BBQ was held at Alex's house.  It's been a great year for the Club with three NVL teams and a strong recreational section with growing numbers so there was plenty to celebrate!  And you can read all about it this year in the annual report - link below.  Festivities got off with a good debate around our venues and potential options on how we could improve the offering for our members.  We then took a break for excellent BBQed food (thanks to chef Jools for manning the BBQ!).

After the BBQ we had officers elections and this year have lots of new faces on the committee as we expand the opportunities for our volunteers to get involved.  And Alex was presented with the Presidents award as a massive thank you for all she's done for the Club in the last year. Your new committee are photographed and for 2019/20 season will be:-

Both the ladies and the mens Division 3 teams have recently got their first double wins.  The ladies game first with a 3-1 win v Northampton and then a 3-1 win v Nottingham Rockets.  It was quickly followed up by the men who got a 3-1 win v Stowmarket and a 3-2 win (17-15 in the last!) against Newcastle Staffs.  The double wins have helped both teams consolidate their positions in the league tables.  It's no mean feat for the ladies as it is their first season in National League and the girls have shown they can get the wins and have great fun.

The men have one double header left this season and the girls two double headers (four games) so still lots to play for.  The womens division 2 team are also in a good position mid-table with two games remaining this season.  #goriga

This year has seen Riga enter a new Division 3C ladies team in the National a league. The ladies have had several years of success in NVL Division 2N with a separate ladies team in West Midlands league. So we decided to push on and enter NVLDiv 3. First game was away in Norwich and the girls won 3-1 against Ashfied Vipers before going down 3-0 v Norwick Spikers (or Spiders if you are Jules!). The last set was 29-27 showing how the Riga ladies improved as the game went on. So much to play for as the season continues! #goriga
